Adriatic BVIF 2026

Welcome Letter

Dear colleagues, dear friends, ladies and gentlemen,

We cordially invite you to attend the Adriatic Breast, Vascular, and Future of Imaging Symposium ABVIF 2026, in the lovely historical coastal city of Lovran, Croatia, on the beautiful Liburnia/Opatija riviera of the Adriatic Sea. The meeting will take place from October 22-24, 2026, and is organized by Croatian Societies for Radiology and for the Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology of the Croatian Medical Association and by the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. The symposium is endorsed by the Clinical and Translational Sciences Section of Academia Europaea.

ABVIF 2026 will mark the twentieth anniversary of the commencement of the National Breast Cancer Screening Programme in Croatia, as well as 22 years from the first among multiple regularly organized vascular symposia in the Adriatic sites of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The central part of the symposium, planned for October 23 midday, will deal with the future of imaging, artificial intelligence and EU imaging research. These topics will be presented by radiologist members of Academia Europaea Basic and Clinical Translational Sciences Section and prominent representatives of industry, European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) and European Commission. The EU and SAPEA research strategies, practical integration of AI and envisaged changes needed to improve the breast cancer screening programs in the future will be discussed. We will present activities and accomplishments of EIBIR, that has collected over € 221.7 million in EU funding across 42 projects, with a success rate of 39.5%.

The participants will have an opportunity to listen to the state-of-the-art lectures delivered by thirty one speakers from ten countries: Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden and Croatia. Also, they can participate in hands-on sessions on ultrasound machines.

The meeting will be accredited by the Croatian Medical Chamber and the participants will receive CME credits.

Lovran is a small city very close to Opatija and Rijeka, close to Slovenia and Italy. Lovran is some 180 kms away from the Croatian capital Zagreb and Zagreb International Airport. A fast three lanes highway is connecting Zagreb and nearby Rijeka.

Join us for the great meeting in Lovran in October!
